Dear Ms. McClure: This responds to your letter asking how long you should retain certai records relating to the sale of motorcycles and motorcycle parts.; The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has som record retention requirements that apply to manufacturers of motor vehicles and motor vehicle equipment. Dealers are required to aid manufacturers in the maintenance of their records. For example, you must supply manufacturers with information relating to the purchasers of motor vehicles that you sell so that the manufacturer can maintain a list of purchasers.; Dealers are not required by the NHTSA to maintain records on vehicle or equipment they sell.
