Importation and Certification FAQs
The Office of Vehicle Safety Compliance (OVSC) has expanded the current Importation and Certification Division web site to include a section entitled “Frequently Asked Questions.” In this section we have attempted to address some common questions and concerns that the office deals with on a regular basis. If your question has not been addressed, please refer to Related Government Agencies for further assistance.
Transport Canada may require evidence that a U.S. motor vehicle manufacturer has complied with U.S. regulations before permission is granted to import the vehicle into Canada. To assist these manufacturer’s, NHTSA will verify receipt of the manufacturer’s submission of information, as required by 49 CFR Parts 565 and 566. We will also review a manufacturer’s certification label to verify compliance with the requirements of 49 CFR Parts 567 and 568.
