Dear Mr. Coffey: This is in response to your request for information concerning method of ensuring the compliance of school buses with the barrier crash test requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 301-75, *Fuel System Integrity*.; Standard No. 301-75, while establishing minimum performance levels does not specify any particular design requirements for school bus fuel systems. A manufacturer is free to design his vehicles in the manner that he believes most appropriate to ensure compliance. To this end, you may find helpful information in a study by Dynamic Science entitled *School Bus Safety Improvement Program*.
